darktable Description

Your personal virtual lighttable and darkroom darktable is a virtual lighttable and darkroom for photographers: it manages your digital negatives in a database and lets you view them through a zoomable lighttable. The project also enables you to develop raw images and enhance them.darktable tries to fill the gap between the many excellent existing free raw converters and image management tools (such as ufraw or f-spot). The user interface is built around efficient caching of image metadata and mipmaps, all stored in a database. The user will always be able to interact, even if the full resolution image is not yet loaded. All editing is fully non-destructive and only operates on cached image buffers for display. the full image is only converted during export. The frontend is written in gtk+/cairo, the database uses sqlite3, raw image loading is done using libraw, hdr, exr and low dynamic range are supported through imagemagick (magickcore). The core operates completely on floating point values, so darktable can not only be used for photography but also for scientifically acquired images or output of renderers (high dynamic range).Prerequisites:* *nix (tested: ubuntu jaunty+karmic, arch linux, gentoo, fedora, mac osx with macports)* required packages: sqlite3, libjpeg, libpng, libraw (supplied), gtk+-2, cairo, libglade2, lcms, gegl (optional), exiv2* optional: gcc>=4.4 (openmp, earlier versions could not handle openmp statements in non-main threads) Here are some key features of "darktable": · runs on gnu linux/gnome and mac osx/macports · import a variety of image formats (e.g. cr2, jpg, .. through LibRaw and libjpeg) · zero-latency user interface through multi-level software caches · zoomable user interface · all data is stored in an sql database for arbitrary access · fully non-destructive editing · core functions operate on floating point buffers · modular image operations (plug-in interface) · some image operations are implemented: color correction/temperature, contrast curve, denoise, denoise/enhance using edge-avoiding wavelets (equalizer), sharpen, crop, rotate · export to low dynamic range (jpg, png), 16-bit (ppm), or linear high dynamic range (pfm) · image rating (stars), filtering and sorting within the film roll · equalizer operation selectively enhances/attenuates frequencies in an edge-preserving way (used for sharpen and denoising at the same time) · exif data read using libexiv2 · color profile management (input/output) using lcms
