EQUIL Description

EQUIL is a system designed to make the job of managing students in laboratory sessions more efficient, orderly and democratic. EQUIL (short from Electronic Queuing of Users In Labs) is a system designed to make the job of managing students in laboratory sessions more efficient, orderly and democratic.Requirements:· Is is recommended that those running an EQUIL server be running a machine of no less than 500MHz clock speed with no less than 128MB of RAM. A graphical environment is not required for the server. For the client, any machine capable of running either Windows XP, Linux with a 2.4 or 2.6 Kernel or MacOSX 10.4 will be suitable. Naturally as the client has a GUI, a desktop environment must be installed on the system (particularly relevant to Linux users). Finally, Sun's Java version 5.0 or higher must be installed in order for the program to execute correctly.Limitations:· Lab log files show the month as being one month prior to the correct one. For example, if the current date would be 14-5-06 then the lab log file will display as 14-4-06. Order is not affected, but this may be disorienting for administrators at first. · LDAP Authentication currently supports only the most basic level of authentication. Passwords are passed to the default LDAP port of 389 and authentication details are passed in plain text over the network. Support for various cryptographic methods will be included in the next release. · Users are not able at this point to use the arrow keys or the enter key to provide input for the program. Pressing enter after inputting a username and password does nothing for example. This is a trivial issue but will be sorted in a future release. What's New in This Release:· Adds support for using the enter key to send student or demonstrator logon details.· Fixed jar file packaging issue that caused a "main class not found" error at runtime.
