BGB Description

BGB is a lightweight Windows emulator built specifically for helping users play Game Boy video games on their computer. The video game console emulator offers support for the Nintendo Game Boy, an 8-bit handheld video game device, the Game Boy Color, a handheld game console, as well as the Super Game Boy, an add-on to the Nintendo console. Since this is a portable program, it is important to mention that it doesn’t leave any traces in the Windows Registry. You can copy it on any USB flash drive or other devices, and take it with you whenever you need to play video games on the fly. BGB boasts a clean and straightforward interface that allows you to upload files by simply dragging and dropping them into the primary panel or using the built-in browse function. The application works with ZIP and GZIP file formats and gives users the possibility to enable or disable the sound, take screenshots, select the pane size, and switch to a full screen mode. Other important features worth mentioning enable users to create new code cheats, and use several configuration tools for disabling the SGB colors, mixing the current and last frame, setting up the audio parameters (e.g. sample rate, volume), applying debugging options, loading the ROM dialog on startup, reducing CPU usage, making the program remain on top of other utilities, as well as configuring the joystick options. All things considered, BGB offers useful features for helping users play video games. On the downside, the process is not very intuitive and rookies may spend some time trying to configure the dedicated parameters. Reviewed by Ana Marculescu, last updated on September 30th, 2013
