MemLatency Description
MemLatency is a lightweight application that was designed in order to provide you with a simple means of measuring the random access (worst case) latency of your computer's memory system. It models the "real-world" access pattern of software applications that use link lists, trees, or hash tables. The latency of a random memory access is the sum of up to four "sublatencies": the L1 and L2 cache miss latencies, the translation lookaside buffer (TLB) miss latency, and the latency of the memory module(s) (tRAC + precharge). NOTE: Before you run MemLatency, make sure you have enough physical memory available for the buffer size you specify. To check, bring up the Windows Task Manager by simultaneously pressing the ctrl, alt, and delete buttons. Click on the "Performance" tab and note the "Available" memory under the "Physical Memory (K)" heading. If not enough physical memory is available, MemLatency will use virtual memory on your hard drive (probably not what you want). The amount of physical memory MemLatency needs is about 16MB more than the buffer size you specify.
