Quack Player Description

Quack Player is a tool that lets you view video files. It supports several media files, including MP3, WAV, AVI, MOV and WMV. After a brief installation process, you can run the startup wizard to select the number of audio channels in use, set Quack Player to always resize the window to fit the current video resolution, as well as always remember the last playlist when the software starts. With this program you can create a playlist, manage the library (according to genre, album, artist, year, title, duration, rating), resize aspect ratio, and bookmark a point in playback. In addition, you can use a sound equalizer, adjust video colors (hue, contrast, saturation, brightness), take a snapshot, and rate audio or video files. Furthermore, you can change subtitle settings (font face, size and color, border thickness and color), enable OnScreen display, select file associations, and view player hotkeys (you cannot re-assign them). The program is great for simply playing music and movies, but it lacks any advanced editing settings. Its interface could also use a makeover (e.g. buttons are too small) and sometimes it is difficult to navigate through it. It also sprung a random error during our tests, but nothing that interfered with its following behavior. The bottom line is that Quack Player is great for novices, but experienced users would prefer something more evolved. It does not come with any kind of user documentation, but it uses a low amount of system memory, and is free of charge. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on December 11th, 2012
