Yamli Description

Yamli is a small Mozilla Firefox extension that enables you to type in Arabic using just your keyboard and nothing else. It doesn’t add a virtual keyboard to the browser neither does it automatically add Arabic language compatibility to your operating system. What it actually does is provide you with a simple means of performing real-time transliteration, which means that it converts text from one script to another. Basically, it inserts the accurate characters just like transcribing but from one language to another, disregarding phonetics. The way Yamli works is quite simple. After installation, it integrates a button in the browser that is displayed at all times. You click it once to activate it and once more to deactivate it. Or you can press a set of predefined keys for the same effect. When active, if you click a word that you type in any text field, you get a list of suggestions for the Arabic translation. This works just like with a spell check function only you don’t choose a correct form but a transcription of the word. You should keep this in mind because the extension replaces all the letters of the word with the corresponding symbols from the Arabic alphabet, it does not translate them. This means that the extension only helps you if you already know how to write the word in Arabic because it only transforms the characters. All in all, Yamli can come in handy in environments such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail and Facebook if you know the language and want to write all the words in Arabic characters.
