Folder Styler is a lightweight software application designed with a single goal in mind: to help users lock folders that contain sensitive information by setting up passwords. The advantages of being portableSince this is a portable program, it is important to mention that it doesn’t leave any traces in the Windows Registry. You can copy it on any USB flash drive or other devices, and take it with you whenever you need to password-protect your folders on the breeze, without having to go through installation steps. Simplistic layout and basic functionalityYou are welcomed by a minimalistic window that offers only a few configuration settings to tinker with. Everything is kept as simple and clear as possible, so even less experienced users can set up the entire locking process using just a few clicks. The utility runs in a stealth mode and you need to press the preset hotkeys in order to open the configuration panel. Folder Styler gives you the possibility to specify the directory that you want to lock using the built-in browse button or drag-and-drop support, choose between different encryption modes (e.g. PFX), and set up passwords. The tool automatically changes the directory’s icons with a locker. It doesn’t display notification messages letting you know that the access to the selected folder is blocked, and it simply locks it. In order to unlock the directory, you are required to drag and drop the folder into the main window and specify the correct password. Tests revealed that Folder Styler carries out a task very quickly and leaves a minimal footprint on system resources. It would have been useful to see support for a virtual vault where all locked directories are stored and hidden from prying eyes.
