WinTorg Description
WinTorg is a software that helps you to understand how to identify organic compounds using spectroscopy. This program simulates the process of identifying an organic unknown and is designed for university and college students beginning their study of organic chemistry and especially spectroscopy. It is possible to use the program as a source of spectroscopic unknowns. Alternatively it can simulate the combination of spectroscopy and traditional qualitative organic analysis. (Note: this second choice may have been restricted by your instructor.) Typically you can explore how to identify an unknown using any combination of spectroscopy and “wet tests” (qualitative organic analysis). You will able to discover the interrelationships between spectral data, other physical measurements, chemical tests and reactions, and the structures of organic compounds. This will enable you to develop and refine a strategy for identifying an organic unknown in a situation free from the additional uncertainties of performing unfamiliar laboratory work and then relying on the results. Once a logical approach has been developed, identification of an unknown can be undertaken by interpreting spectra and in the laboratory with more confidence and efficiency. Main features: designed by an experienced chemistry teacher for university and college students beginning their study of spectroscopy each unknown has 13C (25 MHz) and 1H NMR (400 MHz), IR and MS spectra and UV-vis data other physical properties results for 19 chemical tests and 20 derivatives contains 6 spectroscopic calculators students can use spectroscopy alone, traditional qualitative tests and derivatives alone or a combination of these identification can be by choosing a name or structure (if such help is allowed) or by typing a name or building a structure unknowns can be allocated either by the program (randomly) or by the instructor student progress is recorded and reported extensive fully integrated help is available (amount given is controlled by the instructor) spectroscopic assignments are given for each unknown (after each has been identified) 4 support programs are included unlimited use within the institution (permission is given for network use and/or to make multiple copies) the program is under constant review and the author is responsive to suggestions from users
